Members of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Ohio who…
- …are 18 years of age or older.
- …want to learn how to become effective leaders in congregations, on vestries and Bishop’s committees, and on diocesan committees and commissions.
- …want to acquire the background information to facilitate responsible decision making in the church.
- …want their volunteer commitments and leadership to be grounded in scripture, prayer, and the Anglican tradition of lay ministry.
- …feel called to offer themselves in leadership.
- …want to represent the Anglican position helpfully in ecumenical and interfaith cooperative efforts.
- …want increasingly to understand and exercise the ministry which is theirs as baptized Christians in our Episcopal Church.
SOLLI is a two-year program. Each year includes three two-night weekends, During these times, SOLLI focuses on leadership, learning goals, and commitment to form a mutually responsible learning community. Our life and work together is shaped by scripture, prayer, and reflection.
Between the weekends, two or three on-site learning days will be scheduled on a Saturday or Sunday. Participants will study and become immersed in outstanding examples of ministry in the diocese. The goal of these days is both to present case studies in leadership and to build a network of lay leaders across the diocese.
The SOLLI Selection Process
- SOLLI brochures are sent by The Anglican Academy to all parish priests, SOLLI graduates, and current SOLLI class participants.
- Men and women are recommended for SOLLI either by their clergy, other SOLLI members, or by self-nomination.
- Nominees may click here to submit the application online, may download the application form here, or may contact The Anglican Academy to request an application packet. Phone 800-461-8424 or 614-461-8429 ext 17. Email the Rev. Karl Ruttan or Kay Sturm
- Each nominee completes the application and mails it along with letters of endorsement to The Anglican Academy by mid-May.
- In June, the new class is notified of their selection so they might begin planning for the year’s schedule.
- Once your application has been accepted, you may submit your payment here.
An integral part of the leadership of SOLLI is a team of Coordinators, comprised of three people – two lay and one clergy – to implement and administer SOLLI, with support from the Dean and staff of The Anglican Academy.
The ideal SOLLI class is broadly representative of the people and congregations of the Diocese. These people do or will serve in the programs and organizations of congregations, the Diocese, the Province, and the National Church as their interests lead them. To this end, SOLLI seeks people who are willing to serve where needed, who have some kind of vision for what is needed in the parish and in the Diocese and who have skills to encourage others in ministry.
Results of participation in SOLLI include a commissioning which is part of the graduation ceremonies for The Anglican Academy. SOLLI graduates may also be recommended to the Bishops for appointment to committees, commissions, and task forces of the Diocese and will be sought to offer themselves for elective positions in the Diocese. It is anticipated they will become (more) active and (more) effective in the life of their congregations.
